like theres an emphasis on how its JUST SLASH like same gender relationships/etc are just some kind of genre like slash and not…just a thing that happens??? idk it makes other orientations seem “not real”
yeah man that’s a thing that’s like also prevalent in real world media and it just ahjfgdk bugs me a lot, esp as a lesbian? nowadays less so bc there’s a lot more gay characters in media than there was a few years ago even – but then again, it’s mostly just gay. less LGBT and more lGbt ya feel. a few years ago the only piece of media that had lesbian characters was The L Word– which was super niche-y. sure, it grew into more than that, but there’s still a whole lot of niche feeling to queer media, like you said, like it’s a genre of its own and that’s super alienating.
i’m getting really off track but tl;dr i agree with you, it’s very othering
